Listened all the way through tonight. Purely instrumental. Probably using a koto for most of the music. Some rain sound toward the end of the A side. Atmospheric, with both high levels of energy and low. Sounds like there isn't much info I can get on Mr. Sayer other than he has a bandcamp which says he takes historic and ritual instruments into modern recording studios, and has done live performances in multiple countries.
He knows how to play it without sounding like he's appropriating another culture ignorantly. I wonder how many years he must have studied with other musicians across the world.
I enjoyed it a lot, I'm more of a new age type listener if that helps.
